Probleme mit grub-pc, nachdem der update manager hängen blieb

Hallo allerseits,

auf meinem neuerworbenen Tuxedo (Book BU1504) wurden mir vom ubuntu update manager heute updates vorgeschlagen, die ich dachte durchführen zu lassen.
Mittendrinne blieb der update manager dann stehen, während er grup-pc konfiguierte. Ich dachte mir, dass man nun viel falsch machen könne, und
suchte daher in diversen Foren nach Problemlösungen.
Nach Beenden des Prozesses kam zunächst folgendes:

sudo  apt-get update
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock – open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
 E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/

Daraufhin habe ich wie vorgeschlagen folgendes getan:

 sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
 sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
 sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Letzterer Befehl erzeugte folgende Fehler:

Es stellte sich mittels

fuser -v /var/cache/debconf/config.dat

heraus, dass ein Prozess namens frontend diese Datei blockierte, so dass ich diesen Prozess beendet habe. (Ich glaube an dieser Stelle ging ein Fenster auf, das sagte "Internal System Error" oder so)
Daraufhin schickte mich

sudo dpkg --configure -a

in die Abfragemasken zur Konfiguration von grub-pc. Dort - dem Rat folgend, dass wenn man sich nicht sicher sei, solle man GRUB auf allen Geräten installieren - habe ich alle Geräte ausgewählt.
Nun lief

 sudo apt-get update 
problemlos durch, aber ich frage mich, ob es sicher ist den Rechner neuzustarten oder ob es Probleme beim Booten geben wird. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit das herauszufinden, bevor es zu spät ist?
Und wie kann ich sicher stellen, dass das nun nicht bei jedem update passieren wird?
